The Ultimate Sugar Cookie Recipe by: Shayla Anderson



 

My kids and I love making these cookies all year long. For birthdays, Valentine’s Day, back to school and especially during the holiday season. I love that these cookies and frosting are fail proof and that this recipe makes a ton. You will sure be enjoying them for many days to come.

 

Ingredients for the cookies:

1 cup of sugar 

2 sticks of softened butter 

2 eggs

4 tablespoons of half and half 

1 tablespoon of vanilla 

3 cups of flour 

2 tsp baking powder 

1 tsp baking soda 

 

Ingredients for the frosting:

2 sticks of softened butter 

1 bag of powdered sugar 

3-5 tablespoons of half and half (depending on your desired consistency)

Extra* a couple drops of orange or peppermint extract 

 

Steps:

  1. Cream together your butter and sugar 
  2. Add the eggs, half & half and vanilla 
  3. Mix in the flour, baking powder and baking soda
  4. Cover your dough and place in the fridge for at least 2 hours
  5. Now preheat your oven to 350°
  6. Add some additional flour to your counter and rolling pin
  7. Roll and cut your dough with any cookie cutters you would like. You want your cookies to be about 1/4” thick
  8. Transfer to a baking sheet covered in parchment paper
  9. Bake for 6-7 minutes. Really watch the cookies because they cook fast and you don’t want the edges to get crispy 
  10. Now while they cool whip together your frosting
  11. Using a stand or handheld mixer whip 2 sticks of softened butter until nice and fluffy
  12. Little by little add the whole 2 pound bag of powdered sugar
  13. Now add 3-5 tablespoons of half and half. Start out with 3 TBS and then add more depending on the consistency you are looking for. 
  14. I love adding a couple drops of orange or peppermint extract to add a hint of yummy freshness. But they will still be delicious without.
  15. Now frost and enjoy:)
